Statutory Declarations
Notarizations
A statutory declaration is a legal document that allows an individual (the “declarant”) to affirm that certain facts or statements are true. Statutory declarations are witnessed and certified by a notary public or another authorized official. By signing a statutory declaration, the declarant is legally bound to the truthfulness of their statement.
Our Role In Statutory Declarations
Our Notary Office is committed to ensuring that your statutory declarations are executed properly and meet all legal requirements. Here’s what we do:
- Verify Identity: We confirm the identity of the declarant by reviewing valid government-issued photo identification. This step ensures that the declaration is made by the correct individual.
- Administer the Oath or Solemn Affirmation: We affirm the statement by the declarant. This step ensures that the declarant understands the seriousness of their statement.
- Witness the Declaration: The declarant signs the statutory declaration in our presence, and we witness and certify the document with our notary seal and signature.
- Ensure Compliance: We review the statutory declaration for clarity, completeness, and compliance within BC legal standards.
